15 WARDROBE ESSENTIALS EVERY MAN SHOULD OWN
A list which can change your world.
We are spoilt for choices be it any of them. The biggest choices in life are maybe the girl you want to date, the car you want to drive or probably the world tour you have been jonesing for long. If you trust me, I assume the biggest choices and the primary one will be your wardrobe choices. There are few key pieces which makes your wardrobe. Every man should own these and it will guarantee a successful life and maybe help you crack the other choices you would make in your life time. Here are my 15 picks which will make you a survivor for the long term.
You knew this was coming. It will and mind you will always be the backbone of your wardrobe. A crisp white shirt will go with your vintage jeans to your INR 200,000 suit. Always keep them slick and never under estimate the worth of them.
2) White leather sneakers:
The world has seen a sneaker Renaissance in recent time but if you trust style icons like Mr Alexander McQueen or Mr James dean, you would learn how it has been their biggest trick to effortless cool. Keep them clean and wear them with almost everything from your twill chinos to your suit. Yes with your suit as well. Just consult your work wear rule book at office.
Probably the only trouser you would ever need, the blue chinos are the best alternative to your jeans or the usual suit trousers. This rock solid clothing piece is your fool proof key to sartorial bliss. Wear it with your t- shirt, shirts, Bomber jacket and it will equally do justice with all of them. A crisp pair of shiny brown brogues is the best partner this trouser will ever enjoy.
The denim lovers know what a denim jacket can do to a particularly normal ensemble. Club this with your long line t-shirts, Oxford shirts or your white shirt for some maximum impact. Some street style swag? Tie it effortlessly on your waist or around your shoulders. Go on gents this one needs your attention
A clean white Polo T – shirt is your savior. It goes with your Friday soirees to your summer junkets to your lunches with your pals. Wear them over your blazer or just plain simple with your denims and chinos. Choice of drink can be a stiff old Fashioned?
6) A black t shirt:
A black t shirt is the bread and butter of your wardrobe arsenal, no questions asked. A classic crew neck or a V-neck will add oodles of glam to any of your looks. Someone correctly mentioned, when in doubt go for a black t-shirt.
Maybe the best partner for any of your darker tops, the beige chino is like your insurance to any wardrobe doubts. A classic slim cut in twill cotton is like the supreme choice. Match it up with a navy blazer, your Oxford shirts, navy polo. The list of partners for this staple is endless, make your choice
8) Dark Slim jeans:
A neat pair of denim in slim cut (no skinny please) is a versatile wardrobe essential. Every modern gent should own one pair in neat and dark shades of Indigo or blues. Dark denim has the power of giving a strong sense of your personality when you pair this with serious wardrobe numbers like a cardigan or a tweed blazer. Wear it on a thick Oxford shirt with your plimsolls for a laid back look or with your shiny coffee brown brogues for “I own the night and this place” attitude.
9) A plaid shirt:
This is one of the menswear staples which is going through an upheaval and has slowly made to the capsule wardrobe of many style influencers. A Slim fit shirt cut on a thick twill fabric should be your idol pick. This allows you to experiment this shirt like a layer over your T- shirt or to be worn undone beneath your denim or leather jacket. Club this on your ripped denim shirt or your tailored shorts and I don’t see any reason that you will not end up impressing the new girl at the Sunday house party
I cannot afford to bypass the power of this sartorially essential piece of menswear which has been there and done that. A navy blazer is a classic form of effortless cool and the nautical tones of this blazer is age less. Wear it like a suit, or break down with a beige /white trouser for some off duty swagger. The ease and the elegance of this blazer will make sure that you look on point during your summer trip to Cote d’ Azure.
11) A Grey Suit:
Irrespective of where you work and what is the nature of your business, a grey suit will always remain the single most dominating colour of suit in your wardrobe. The no- nonsense vibe of this colour is best enjoyed with a crisp white or ice blue shirt with a dark navy or a slim black tie. You can even wear this grey suit under a pale pink shirt on day that the stunning blonde from your London office will be in for the presentation you have been preparing since long.
12) A Brown Leather Brogue:
You will always be perceived with the kind of shoe game you maintain. To be honest, you need very solid shoe foundation and if you trust me, this really helps in deciding your whole look. A brown brogue shoe in premium leather is your one single powerful shoe type which can elevate any look by heaps and bounds. Keep it shiny and prim and wear it with anything from your navy suit to your ripped jeans
There will be instances when you don’t want to wear a collared shirt. Try this alternate which will still look on point when teamed with one of your summer deconstructed blazer or with your jeans or with your shorts. Do give them a try for some boho cool vibes and summer chill
A plain or a basic white t-shirt is your everyday saviour. Make sure its cut on a premium combed jersey fabric and you will be confident to face the world in it. A classic crew neck is my personal favourite and when teamed with denims, chinos, under a blazer or a cardigan, we can ensure some maximum yet effortless sartorial victory
A Printed Tie Cut on a slim pattern is like the cherry on the cake. It’s like the finishing touch to your entire formal ensemble. If you want to go by my opinion, I would suggest modern dandies to wear a slim tie on your shirt with maybe ripped jeans and rolled cuffs on sock-less penny loafers. This is your key to get into the world of mixing formals with something downright rakish. Make your choice but fix the slim tie with a tie pin and I guess you will know how you are going to rock the gala dinner tonight.
The Final Word:
With the onslaught of so many brands with different ideologies, we are blessed with so many choices. This list is my personal pick and I believe when mixed cleverly with each other, this is the kind of look every gent should look forward to. Choices will always be there but then we need to cut some slack and go for the pieces which will defend your sartorial elegance and will keep you intact even at the worst of the times. Imagine what they will do in good times.
